8/7/2023 0 Comments Random fun facts about slugs![]() ![]() Variable degrees of nudity have basically arisen all throughout the snails, and many languages never even bothered giving "snails" and "slugs" two different names at all. Some groups of Gastropoda contain both shelled and un-shelled members, while others consist of entirely one or the other, and there even exists a full spectrum in between, from snails with internal or partially internal shells to near-slugs with a mere flake of shell hanging off their rumps. Taxonomically, the definition of "slug" becomes a little more nebulous. For the slug, the whole world is its shell, so long as it can haul itself back to its preferred hiding place before it gets baked by the sun every day. ![]() It may be more delicate and more vulnerable to dehydration, but it can also go wherever it pleases, hiding itself in deep cracks or crevices to escape the sun. A snail needs to intake a significant amount of calcium to keep that shell growing.Ī slug, on the other hand, trades the advantages of the shell for pure freedom. Your big, heavy backpack slows you down, limits where your body can fit, gives some predators something easier to grab onto, and you even have to keep building and mending the thing. Unfortunately, that convenience comes with a cost. Imagine keeping your most vital organs in a big, bulletproof backpack, and you'll have a handle on the life of a shelled Gastropod, or what we call a "snail." You can even pull the rest of yourself up into that backpack when you need to hide from predators, sleep through the hot day or just wait out a dry spell. Today we're just going to be talking terrestrial slugs, and in particular, my personal experiences with the terrestrial slugs of the United States, one of our few remaining conversation topics still untainted by despair and horror. It should go without saying, of course, that I'm not including nudibranchs or any of the marine slugs in this "gross underdog" equation, and they're a subject best suited to their own, distinct article anyway. Perhaps it's for this reason that I was always drawn to slugs so much more than their shelled counterparts, or perhaps it's just that simple blobbiness that I find just a little more charming all on its own. Once the very same animal is homeless and naked, it becomes much more divisive, much "grosser" and "creepier" in the eyes of far more people, with slugs seldom gracing anywhere near as many cartoons, fantasy paintings, lawn ornaments or "cuteness overload" blogs. Slugs are great! Sure, the hypnotically swirled shell of a snail has an almost unreal whimsy to it, but that seems to be precisely why they enjoy such widespread acceptance in our popular culture. ![]() 8/7/2023 0 Comments Lame funny dad jokes![]() “Cashier: “Would you like the milk in a bag, sir?” DAD: “No, just leave it in the carton!””.Try to resist a facepalm, it can hurt your dad, who believes that he is the best comedian ever. It’s used as a way to further differentiate between younger players – and disappears as they either get older or develop into better players. This silver scale essentially is used when youth players would otherwise be showing as half a gold star. In most cases, these will feature as silver stars in current ability and gold stars in potential ability. If you head to your development centre and look at some of your youth prospects you might notice some silver stars knocking around trying to confuse you. The traditional gold stars sit on the half star to five star range but there are two different coloured stars that are slightly different. There are also three different coloured stars that you need to understand as well, which all mean slightly different things. The ratings go from half a star up to the famed, full, five stars – with a little caveat or two that we will touch on in more detail later. The penis has a lot of sensitive nerves and erectile tissue below the skin. Each of these spots can be sensitive to the right kind of vibrations, but proceed with caution, as they're going to be more sensitive than you realize.Īnother commonly overlooked erogenous zone that responds particularly well to powerful, deep-tissue vibration is right between the legs below the scrotum. Most nerves are concentrated in the head or glans of the penis, including the urethral opening, and on the underside, the frenulum–a little bridge of skin connecting the glans to the phallus. The shape and nerve density are different, but anything that works on a clitoris will work on a phallus. Men, women, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming folks, listen up: The phallus is just a big clitoris. I mentioned phalluses throughout this story, but that statement deserves more explanation. The same goes for the phallus-the erectile tissue goes deep into your body, and stimulating it with a vibrator can provide a new and exhilarating experience. Remember, about 90 percent of the clitoris can't be stimulated directly because it's under the skin, so deep vibes are important. You should feel it tickling your nostrils and sinuses, and it should give you an idea of how deep into your genital tissue it can stimulate. When you get your hands on your new vibrator, test its vibration strength on the tip of your nose first. There's nothing worse than a toy that dies on you mid-use. It's way too easy to lose the charger, and there's comfort in knowing you can use any charging cable you have lying around. Is it USB-A, USB-C, or a proprietary AC adapter? I try to keep things simple and stick with vibrators that charge with USB-A or USB-C. ![]() Second, look at the charger the vibrator comes with. That's because it's chemically different from other kinds of silicone. Unlike lesser grades of silicone, platinum silicone doesn't off-gas any weird smells or compounds that may be unpleasant or even harmful to your genitals. Hard glossy plastic is OK for parts that don't touch your genitals, but platinum silicone is medical grade, nonporous, easy to clean, and body-safe. For vibrators, you really want them to be made with 100 percent platinum silicone. Luckily, I have a few tips and tricks that I use when shopping for and testing vibrators that can help you narrow things down.įirst, look at the materials. Vibrators are some of the most approachable sex toys on the market, but there are a lot of them, so shopping for one can get overwhelming. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was a public school teacher in a large California school district for close to 30 years. And, unfortunately, political dynamics seem to find a way of creeping into the evaluative process. Oftentimes it seems oranges are compared to apples, areas used to show improvement are almost unrelated, and an institutionalized pre test/post test approach is often ignored. Ascertaining an initial level of ability provides a base line to effectively measure improvement, mastery or progress. The ability, among other factors, of students must be a consideration when measuring the effectiveness of instruction, and effective administrators will include such measurements within their evaluations. With that out of the way, let’s check it out. I will however try to cover the more important features. This is a complex synth with a wealth of options, so it is next to impossible to cover everything within a regular review. You can also import patches from the famous hardware synth. It includes a powerful matrix for the operators, unison, sound morphing, an arpeggiator, twelve effects, and 960 presets. FM8 was released in 2007 with many new and improved features. It was originally released as FM7 way back in 2002. I thought it would be a perfect candidate for our Oldies but Goodies column, seeing as it is a classic synth plugin that has been around for quite some time. Now that you have some historical background on the original hardware synthesizer, I will move on to Native Instruments’ software synthesizer called FM8. The 32 algorithms for the operators gave it a wide range of audio possibilities, along with a velocity-sensitive keyboard that also included aftertouch. The operators can be either a modulator or a carrier, and they are aligned in various configurations that form the basis for the sound that is created. Its FM is a system of sine wave “operators” that can generate new sounds by interacting with each other. It used FM (frequency modulation) synthesis to create its sounds. It might not have been the easiest to program, but the sounds it made were unlike many others at that time. The DX7 by Yamaha was a very popular 16-voice digital synthesizer that was originally released back in 1983. Does Native Instruments’ powerful FM8 stand the test of time? We take a look at a classic emulation of a very popular synthesizer from the early 1980s. ![]() |
